General Description
Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) are high-performance building components used for walls, roofs, and floors. They consist of an insulating foam core
sandwiched between two structural facings, such as oriented strand board (OSB) or magnesium oxide (MgO) board. SIPs provide excellent thermal insulation,
structural integrity, and air-tightness, making them ideal for energy-efficient and sustainable construction.
SIPs are factory-fabricated to precise dimensions, reducing material waste and on-site labor. They can be used for various applications, including residential,
commercial, and industrial buildings. Their versatility and ease of installation make them suitable for both low-rise and high-rise structures.
Engineering Specifications
SIPs are structural elements capable of supporting significant loads while providing superior thermal performance. The core material, typically EPS, offers high
R-values and resistance to thermal bridging. The facings, bonded to the core under high pressure, provide rigidity and load distribution, making SIPs ideal for
spanning large areas without additional framing.
Key properties include:
Thermal Performance: High R-values reduce energy consumption for heating and cooling.
Structural Integrity: Load-bearing capacity meets or exceeds conventional framing standards.
Air Tightness: Reduced air infiltration lowers energy costs and improves indoor air quality.
Fire Resistance: MgO facings provide inherent fire resistance, meeting ASTM E119 standards.
pecification Range
Thermal Resistance (R-Value):
R-24 (Interior walls, 4½” panels).
R-38 (Exterior walls, 6½” panels).
R-50 (Roofs, 8½” panels).
Compressive Strength:
Core material withstands 10–25 psi, sufficient for wall and roof loads.
Fire Rating:
ASTM E119 compliance for fire-resistance ratings.
Moisture Resistance:
MgO facings resist mold, mildew, and water absorption.
